Ashley Cole has revealed that he might sign for Birmingham City before the end of the transfer window.

The player who is now playing in the Major League Soccer with LA Galaxy said that he is opened to a return to England and that Birmingham is a club that is interested in him.

Ashley Cole is close to the end of his contract with the Major League Soccer team, and he said that he might consider a move to England as he has been seduced by Harry Redknapp’s project.

Ashley Cole has reportedly told reporters that he only has six months left on his contract with LA Galaxy and that he is keeping all his options open, and this might include a return to England.

LA Galaxy initially denied the rumors and said that the player would stay in the MLS after the end of his contract, but it now appears that Ashley Cole might be interested to return to his native England. Continue reading →

DONOVAN RECEIVES INAUGURAL WALT CHYZOWYCH AWARD

US soccer star Landon Donovan has been awarded the inaugural Walt Chyzowych Distinguished Playing Careeer Award, according to reports.

The Major League Soccer star picked up the award at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention in Los Angeles this year.

The event used to be for a lifetime achievement in soccer, usually for a coach but this year had a new twist in it being awarded to a player. The location of the convention and the timing were all just in Donovan’s favour. There was no player that could have beaten him to it.

This year the winner of the Lifetime Achievement honour was longtime US national team programme coach Jay Hoffman.

Donovan was happy to receive the inaugural honour, speaking at length at the event about how he look up the achievements of Chyzowych on American soccer from the 1960s to the 1980s. He spoke of how persistent he was despite the game being invisible to mainstream sports landscape. Continue reading →

LAMPARD LINKED TO NEWCASTLE AFTER LEAVING MLS

Frank Lampard recently made known his plan to leave MLS football where he plays for New York City when the season finally comes to an end.

This would however not stop the 38-year old from playing on and just recently, he has been linked with a return to England after Championship side Newcastle showed an interest in the player.

So far in the MLS playoffs, Lampard has shown a lot of success, coming up from below as an underdog in the competition, to score 12 goals in 19 appearances, despite missing spells due to injuries.

Newcastle has been doing quite well in the championship, and signing Lampard would be a good move for them. With Mo Diame in the attacking midfield role and no real quality, playing Lampard in that position would help the team a lot. The duo could both set up Dwight Gayle while Lampard can easily drift into the box to score. Continue reading →

David Beckham Football franchise still away from getting into MLS

When David Beckham’s Football franchise in America had come into existence, the aim was to take it into the Major League Soccer within three years, but, three years will pass soon since that date and there are no signs of the franchise getting anywhere close to MLS.

Another franchise which is based in Atlanta had also been announced at that same time and its progress has been so good that it is final to appear in the next Major League Soccer.

While there are many things which are obstructing the plans of Beckham’s franchise, the fact that they have chosen Miami as their base hasn’t helped them.

The city although is beautiful in every sense, but, not from the point of view of setting up a Football club simply because it does not have enough land.

The building of the stadium was one of the foremost things to do for Beckham and his colleagues and they were looking for a land in the central area of the city, but, the space for that was unavailable anywhere downtown.

So, the search shifted to the side areas and when a suitable site was found, its purchase got stuck and even up to this point, there are complications in the purchase. Continue reading →

Gregg Berhalter tactics once again was thrown off the books

The tactics provided by coach Gregg Berhalter once again was thrown off the books after Columbus Crew went behind in a game once again.

The club are largely seen in the mid-table due to their inability to shut down the opposition early on. Columbus Crew have been chasing several games during the 2015 MLS campaign and it was once again the case in the recent match against Montréal Impact. The team went down 2-0 after just eight minutes of the start. Even though the team was able to pick up some momentum after this disappointment, they were unable to get back even with almost 80 minutes of game time.

The damage had already been done because of the poor start andBerhalter says that this is something that the team needs to address immediately. There is a danger for Columbus Crew the teams like New England Revolution and even Philadelphia Union will be able to capitalise on this poor form. A run of just two wins in the last five matches mean that there are four teams separated by just goal difference in the Eastern conference. Columbus Crew went on to lose the match 3-0 with Oduro providing the final goal that was humiliating for the team. Continue reading →

Inconsistency has been a major problem for Vancouver Whitecaps

Inconsistency has been a major problem for Vancouver Whitecaps, as they have been unable to sustain the good start made to the season.

The team managed four wins from the opening five matches, but they have only managed to win the last five. This has allowed FC Dallas to reclaim the lead in the Western Conference. They have a one-point advantage over Vancouver along with a game in hand. Hence, there is a real urgency to return to winning ways at Vancouver and the club plan to do this with a win over Colorado Rapids this weekend.

Manager Carl Robinson admitted that his team have not been consistent enough in the final third. This has meant that they have allowed other teams to take advantage of the defence of mistakes, of which there have been a few. Robinson has hinted that the team has been undergoing a lot of work during training in order to improve efficiency in attack, but it is yet to pay off. Even though they have managed just two wins, this form is at least better than the results seen in the month of April when the team only managed a single victory. In recent months, though, Vancouver have shown the ability to bounce back from defeats. Continue reading →

Ricki Lambert says Club can win Europa League

Liverpool star Ricki Lambert says that the club can win the Europa League this season. Such a victory will provide them with the passage into the group stages of the Champions League straightaway.

The Merseyside outfit will be aware that this remains as the only hope of reaching the knockout stages of the prestigious competition. This is because the Reds find themselves outside the top four with clubs like Manchester United, Arsenal, and Southampton favourites with just over 10 matches left in the season.

Even though Liverpool have suffered just one defeat in the last 16 matches of all competitions, they are not being backed by the bookmakers for a top four finish. Lambert has struggled for goals since his £ 4 million move from Southampton, but the England international has provided some crucial goals for the team. The 33-year-old has found the back of the net only twice in the Premier league, but most of his 18 appearances have come from the bench. After having played 730 minutes of action, he has scored only thrice. Continue reading →
