Inconsistency has been a major problem for Vancouver Whitecaps

Inconsistency has been a major problem for Vancouver Whitecaps, as they have been unable to sustain the good start made to the season.

The team managed four wins from the opening five matches, but they have only managed to win the last five. This has allowed FC Dallas to reclaim the lead in the Western Conference. They have a one-point advantage over Vancouver along with a game in hand. Hence, there is a real urgency to return to winning ways at Vancouver and the club plan to do this with a win over Colorado Rapids this weekend.

Manager Carl Robinson admitted that his team have not been consistent enough in the final third. This has meant that they have allowed other teams to take advantage of the defence of mistakes, of which there have been a few. Robinson has hinted that the team has been undergoing a lot of work during training in order to improve efficiency in attack, but it is yet to pay off. Even though they have managed just two wins, this form is at least better than the results seen in the month of April when the team only managed a single victory. In recent months, though, Vancouver have shown the ability to bounce back from defeats.

“I’m open and honest enough to say we need to be better, if we’re going to be a top team in this league, in the final third areas. We’re very good defensively, but we do make defensive mistakes as we showed last week. But as I keep saying we’re a work in progress. We continue to work every day on our patterns of play, on our attacking phases in the final third. Sometime they come off and sometimes they don’t. When they do, we’re good to watch; and when they don’t, we could be frustrating to watch,” said Robinson.
