BECKHAM CLUB OWNERSHIP AMBITION RECEIVES HOPE

Not too far off there seemed to be final whistle set to be blown on David Beckham MLS club ownership dreams.

However, after getting approval to get the land his ownership group required to build a stadium life was breathed into those dreams again.

The former LA Galaxy player pictured owning a top team in the glitziest of cities in America – Miami. It was a viable retirement job but after series of issues, he most likely never anticipated it would be this difficult.

“Our heart is to be one of the best franchises in Major League Soccer and a great neighbour, partner and leader here for kids that are playing soccer in this community,” the chief negotiator for the project Tim Leiweke said. He added that within the next few weeks the group hoped that the MLS would accept Miami into the fold.

The next agenda would be to secure MLS approval for the planned 25,000 seat, open roof stadium. The plan is for fans to walk along picturesque waterfront boulevards to a state of the art stadium in “the world’s most vibrant city.” Continue reading →

DONOVAN RECEIVES INAUGURAL WALT CHYZOWYCH AWARD

US soccer star Landon Donovan has been awarded the inaugural Walt Chyzowych Distinguished Playing Careeer Award, according to reports.

The Major League Soccer star picked up the award at the National Soccer Coaches Association of America convention in Los Angeles this year.

The event used to be for a lifetime achievement in soccer, usually for a coach but this year had a new twist in it being awarded to a player. The location of the convention and the timing were all just in Donovan’s favour. There was no player that could have beaten him to it.

This year the winner of the Lifetime Achievement honour was longtime US national team programme coach Jay Hoffman.

Donovan was happy to receive the inaugural honour, speaking at length at the event about how he look up the achievements of Chyzowych on American soccer from the 1960s to the 1980s. He spoke of how persistent he was despite the game being invisible to mainstream sports landscape. Continue reading →

David Beckham Football franchise still away from getting into MLS

When David Beckham’s Football franchise in America had come into existence, the aim was to take it into the Major League Soccer within three years, but, three years will pass soon since that date and there are no signs of the franchise getting anywhere close to MLS.

Another franchise which is based in Atlanta had also been announced at that same time and its progress has been so good that it is final to appear in the next Major League Soccer.

While there are many things which are obstructing the plans of Beckham’s franchise, the fact that they have chosen Miami as their base hasn’t helped them.

The city although is beautiful in every sense, but, not from the point of view of setting up a Football club simply because it does not have enough land.

The building of the stadium was one of the foremost things to do for Beckham and his colleagues and they were looking for a land in the central area of the city, but, the space for that was unavailable anywhere downtown.

So, the search shifted to the side areas and when a suitable site was found, its purchase got stuck and even up to this point, there are complications in the purchase. Continue reading →

Giovani Dos Santos earns Mexico call-up after good form in the MLS

Giovani Dos Santos has earned a well-deserved call-up for the Mexico national team after impressing in the MLS. Indeed, the LA Galaxy player has managed 5 goals and 5 assists in the 5 last league matches he played. However, he chose to decline the invitation without giving any reason.

Mexico head coach Juan Carlos Osorio has stated that Giovani dos Santos has been invited to form part of the team that will take part in the Copa America but that he had declined the invitation. He said that the Mexico staff has been impressed by dos Santos recent form and that they wanted him to be part of the team.

When asked about the reason given by dos Santos, Juan Carlos Osorio did not want to give any further information saying that such conversation is confidential and that it will be unethical for him to reveal any other information without the approval of Giovani dos Santos.

Dos Santos was live on radio when the Mexico head coach was announcing the players who were selected. He did not choose to react live but did make a series of tweets afterward. Continue reading →

Fabio Capello is no longer the coach of Russia and has to receive $16.7 million in compensation

Fabio Capello was appointed as the manager of Russia back in July of 2012 and his contract was initially agreed to keep Capello in charge of the national team at least until 2018 but after a string of underwhelming results and bad relationships that Capello had with certain players as well as with some executives, his time reached it’s end sooner than expected.

Due to his contract ending sooner than what it had stated, Capello is now set to earn around $16.7 million as compensation. This is a huge amount of money for a financial struggled football federation to pay and especially taking into consideration all of the disappointing results that Russia went through under the tutelage of Fabio Capello who failed to convince the head chiefs of the Russian national team and the national side is even at risk of not getting past the 2016 Euro’s after having lost against Austria.

The official governing body of football in Russia announced the departure of Fabio Capello in a press report which was published in their website and read“The Russian Football Union sincerely thanks Fabio Capello for the work he has done as the chief coach and wishes him success in his further professional activity’’ Continue reading →

Gregg Berhalter tactics once again was thrown off the books

The tactics provided by coach Gregg Berhalter once again was thrown off the books after Columbus Crew went behind in a game once again.

The club are largely seen in the mid-table due to their inability to shut down the opposition early on. Columbus Crew have been chasing several games during the 2015 MLS campaign and it was once again the case in the recent match against Montréal Impact. The team went down 2-0 after just eight minutes of the start. Even though the team was able to pick up some momentum after this disappointment, they were unable to get back even with almost 80 minutes of game time.

The damage had already been done because of the poor start andBerhalter says that this is something that the team needs to address immediately. There is a danger for Columbus Crew the teams like New England Revolution and even Philadelphia Union will be able to capitalise on this poor form. A run of just two wins in the last five matches mean that there are four teams separated by just goal difference in the Eastern conference. Columbus Crew went on to lose the match 3-0 with Oduro providing the final goal that was humiliating for the team. Continue reading →

Inconsistency has been a major problem for Vancouver Whitecaps

Inconsistency has been a major problem for Vancouver Whitecaps, as they have been unable to sustain the good start made to the season.

The team managed four wins from the opening five matches, but they have only managed to win the last five. This has allowed FC Dallas to reclaim the lead in the Western Conference. They have a one-point advantage over Vancouver along with a game in hand. Hence, there is a real urgency to return to winning ways at Vancouver and the club plan to do this with a win over Colorado Rapids this weekend.

Manager Carl Robinson admitted that his team have not been consistent enough in the final third. This has meant that they have allowed other teams to take advantage of the defence of mistakes, of which there have been a few. Robinson has hinted that the team has been undergoing a lot of work during training in order to improve efficiency in attack, but it is yet to pay off. Even though they have managed just two wins, this form is at least better than the results seen in the month of April when the team only managed a single victory. In recent months, though, Vancouver have shown the ability to bounce back from defeats. Continue reading →

LA Galaxy appear to be suffering from the loss of their talisman Landon Donovan

LA Galaxy certainly appear to be suffering from the loss of their talisman Landon Donovan, as they simply not have been at their best this season.

The team failed to get any points in a league match after the 2-0 loss against Vancouver. This defeat has left with team just one place above the bottom of the table. It would have been an unimaginable position a few months ago after LA Galaxy lifted the MLS cup. Since the 2-0 win over Chicago Fire in the opening game of the season, the team have been looking extremely poor.

After having signed Steven Gerrard from Premier league outfit Liverpool, things appeared to be on the up for LA Galaxy even after the exit of Donovan. The club’s former captain has been a major reason behind the success that LA Galaxy have enjoyed in the league. It was suggested that the presence of our great players like Robbie Keane would help the club tide over the absence of a player like Donovan until Gerrard came to the club after the end of the Premier League campaign. Coach Bruce Arena is a man under pressure, but he has stated that there will be no excuses if Galaxy repeat the poor performance against Seattle Sounders in the next match. Continue reading →
